Letter from our CEO

October 30, 2018

Dear Families, Cadets, Staff and Community Partners,

It is with great joy that I have accepted to serve in the role of CEO/principal at Maritime Academy Charter School (MACS) effective October 15, 2018. I am very excited about working closely with all of the cadets, families, staff and community partners and I appreciate the board’s continued commitment to the success of MACS. It is my goal, in collaboration with all of you, to continue to build on previous accomplishments and initiatives.

Our mission at Maritime is to ensure every cadetis prepared to succeed in college, career or a branch of the military. As the CEO it is my responsibility to work collaboratively with the dedicated board, talented staff, and caring families and community partners to ensure every cadet is successful and reaches their individual potential. I do not take this responsibility lightly. I promise to listen, learn and lead in a manner that will capitalize on everyone’s strengths. I believe in our cadets’ capacity to learn and I believe we have talented adults working collectively to support our cadets.

I thank the previous CEOs for laying a strong foundation for the future of MACS. The goals for this year remain the same and I will work hard to implement the action plans that have been developed. I am confident that with the collective intelligence of the maritime team and our many partners, MACS will meet continued success.  Our 2018-2019 goals are to:

  1. Provide a rigorous academic program within the maritime theme.
  2. Provide a safe learning environment.
  3. Ensure all cadets receive the necessary supports so that they meet with success.
  4. Ensure students are on track to graduation and prepared for career.
  5. Celebrate outstanding attendance and student progress.

Last year, we met with many successes at both the elementary and high schools. However, we still continue to struggle with cadet absenteeism and punctuality. I urge every cadet to set a personal goal to attend daily on time, do your best and ask for help. We offer afterschool study hall and Saturday School. This structure provides a quiet place supervised by a teacher with technology access to our students.

I look forward to serving!

Sincerely,

Lucy Feria
