Lights On Afterschool

On October 25th, Maritime Academy Charter School’s 21st Century Learning Grant will hold a community open house as part of Lights On Afterschool, a nationwide rally for afterschool programs that is expected to see more than 1 million Americans attend more than 8,000 events this year. At our event, parents and supporters will have the option to sign a petition that urges lawmakers not to deny or divert funding for these influential afterschool programs. Maritime Academy currently serves over 320 students in Philadelphia, providing them a safe place to stay after the school day ends.

Maritime Academy's Lights On Afterschool event will be held in Building 41 and will include all CLC programs along with program offerings from the surrounding community. Special guests will include John Taylor, our Pennsylvania State Representative and a number of different community partners.

All community members and Title 1 families are invited to attend. For further information about the event, please contact Ms. Coates at coates.c@maritimecharter.org. For more information about Lights On Afterschool or about afterschool programs in general, visit www.afterschoolalliance.org.

Afterschool programs keep kids safe, help working families and inspire learning. According to data from the Afterschool Alliance, 11.3 million children are without adult supervision in the afternoon hours.
