Welcome to the 2018-2019 School Year. This summer has been a time of change for Maritime Academy Charter School. Mr. Edward Poznek, CEO, has taken on another leadership position at Christopher Columbus Charter School.
The MACHS Board of Directors have given me their vote of confidence by naming me the Interim CEO as they conduct their search for a permanent CEO. I was a part of the Maritime Charter School Family last school year in my capacity as Director of Special Education. I have met many of our families and look forward to continuing those relationships and making new acquaintances.
Changes have also taken place in our Middle School this summer. All classrooms and Special Area Teachers are now located in Building 107 while the School and Administrative Offices are located in Building 11. Should you need to come to school for an early dismissal for your child, you will come to the main office in Building 11 and your child will be brought to you by a Support Staff member. Students who arrive late to school will go directly to Building 107 where Support Staff will sign them into class. Mr. Saunders and Mr. Walsh will maintain offices in both Building 107 and 11. Mr. Saunders and Mr. Walsh will use their Building 11 Offices for parent conferences. The majority of their day will be spent directly with teachers and students in Building 107. In light of national events over the past year, these changes have been made for the safety and security of all students.
I am excited about the opportunities this year presents for our Cadets. We will be enhancing and increasing student and classroom technology at both the High School and Middle School. There will be a more intensive program to explore post high school options with our High School Cadets. Both schools will be implementing new strategies that guide students through their social and emotional development. Review and adjustment to our academic program will integrate and enhance Maritime Studies will be evident.
You can look forward to increased parent informational meetings and a variety of student and family events.
On behalf of the entire Maritime Charter School Staff, we look forward to seeing you at our ‘Back to School Nights’ and throughout the School Year.
