PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Philadelphia school receives new laptops through a KYW Newsradio community program.

Maritime Academy Charter School received 10 laptops from KYW Newsradio and Comcast after being nominated for the prize by fourth grade teacher Tabyus Walker.

"I was at a book bank and KYW had a venue there," he explained. He entered the laptop drive "and amazingly, I won for the school," he said.

Walker says he was thrilled to have won the drawing so he could bring more resources into the school, and that extra laptops are always useful within their computer curriculum.

"So for the kids, they love computer programs and they are very visual learners," he said.

Fourth grader Iyana Riggins says she can't wait to open the boxes.

"We only have one cart [of laptops] right now because the other ones are broken down," Iyana said .

When asked if she likes computer class, she said "Yes, yes definitely. I like to learn how to type faster and I like to research on the GPS and look around and see places and discover new things."
