21stCentury Community Learning Center

Attention Parents and Students,

Our 21st Century Community Learning Center is re-opening for the fall on September 5th.  Please review the programs available (Middle School only)and complete the application form if your cadet is interested in joining.  Students do not have to attend Maritime Academy to register for these programs.   Please note that transportation is NOT available for both before and after school activities.

PSSA and More Morning Assistance:  Our program is a technology integrated tutoring program that uses specialized instruction to help reach individual learners.  Each student will have access to hands-on activities, Mac book pros, small-group instruction, and individual attention in this CLC program. This is a great program to help students with concepts they have difficulty in, a project that needs more direction, computer access, homework help, PSSA practice, or whatever the school related instruction may be. 

  • Meets every morning from 7:15 to 8:15 in the computer lab.

LEGO Robotics:  Students will build a LEGO robot from a kit in order to complete this year’s mission; more details to come on this program.

Sea Perch:  This exclusive underwater robotics program is open to 7th and 8th graders.  

  • The team meets on Monday and Thursday from 4pm to 6:30pm

Math/RELA tutoring/homework help:  Students will work in a classroom setting with a Maritime teacher for assistance in areas of academic weakness or on the day’s homework.  We will have college students in the room assisting the teachers in the work.

  • Math: Meets every Monday through Thursday from 4 to 6:30 PM 
  • RELA: Meets every Monday through Thursday from 4 to 6:30 PM 
  • Maritime PALS:  Older cadets will be matched up with younger cadets to assist them in various activities such as sports, problem-solving games, and homework. This program meets on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.  This program can also provide service hours for 8thgraders who may need them for entering high school.

Team Activities Program:  Students will build communication, problem solving, cooperation, and team strategy skills while competing in team sports.  This program meets Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morningsfrom 7:15 to 8:15.

News Reporters:  Cadets will do research on current events and report on upcoming/past events within the Maritime community.  This program is open to 5ththrough 8thgraders

Boat Building:  Cadets will work together to build a 12’ long wooden boat that they will take out on the water at the end of the program. Under the guidance of a professional boat builder, students will learn and practice shop safety, reading plans, working safely with tools, construction techniques, and more.  This program is open to 5-8 grade.

Sailing:  This program is open to 3rd to 8th graders that know how to swim.  The program runs select Fridays from 4pm to 7:00pm in the fall and the spring.

Chess:  This team will meet on Mondays and Thursdays from 4pm to 6pm in room 304  

  • There will also be chess tournaments throughout the school year.

Active STEM:  Students will be working on building items like an obstacle course, escaping a room, building a house, and much more while building basic skills in science, technology, engineering, and math.  This program is open to 6, 7, and 8thgraders on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.

Art Program:  This program is for 2ndgrade to 8thgraders.

  • The program will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4pm to 6:30pm.  This program will not begin until October 1st.

K’Nex Program:  Cadets will build various structures from K’Nex kits and compete to determine if the structures are strong to survive various engineering tests.  This program is open to all grades and meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Pirate Camp:  Cadets will be engaged in a variety of Maritime-based hands-on STEM based; this program is for grades 2 and 3.  More details will be coming out regarding days and times for this program.

Ocean Explorers:  Cadets in grades 4 through 6 will use hands on kits to discover various aspects of the ocean and its inhabitants.  More details will be coming out regarding days and times for this program.
