Mystic Seaport, Connecticut Trip - Elementary School

On April 16th, 2019, eight selected cadets from Maritime Academy Charter School visited Mystic Seaport, Connecticut. The Mystic Seaport Museum is the nation's prime maritime museum. It was first established in 1929 in order to collect and save the quickly disappearing artifacts of "seafaring past". The Museum's motto is to “inspire an enduring connection to the American maritime experience.”

Cadets had the opportunity to visit and explore the "Charles W. Morgan" which was the last wooden whaling ship in the World. Their experience also led them to birthing on the "Joseph Conrad". Next, was the visit to the "Mayflower II" which is currently under renovations and is expected to set sail back to Plymouth Massachusetts in the fall of 2019.

The adventure of sleeping on a ship was considered by cadets as a once in a lifetime experience. Cadets were involved in learning how to sail and eventually sailing on their own, learned how to tie knots, how to use a harpoon for whaling, and many other activities. Best of all, cadets expressed interest on returning with their families.
