MACHS - Maritime Academy CHarter School

MACHS is fortunate to have developed strong working relationships with a number of educational and community service organizations. These organizations strengthen the schools ability to provide authentic learning experiences for its students.

The major supporters and collaborators are listed below with a brief description of the contributions.

Located in Kings Point, NY, the USMMA helps with school design and advises the school with special emphasis on the maritime coursework, virtual learning technologies, and internships.

Provides professional development for teachers in language arts, reading instruction, mathematics education, and science learning. The Talent Development Program offers unique learning experiences for MACHS students.

Provides an array of comprehensive education for students and staff in maritime history. Students are offered internships in boat building and as museum docents. The museum works with MACHS staff to develop new courses and special hands-on learning opportunities for students.

Offers a wide range of opportunities for students to experience the real world of work through the various maritime companies they manage. MACHS students get paid internships and work experience on the Delaware River.

Gives course materials and provide speakers for classrooms and faculty professional development so the school is aware of the latest developments in the world of intermodal transportation.

Gives lessons to interested students who want to become certified in SCUBA. Students use the pool at St. Joseph's University to learn and practice. In addition to learning SCUBA for fun, certification can also lead to a variety of careers.

Offers students the opportunity to learn how to sail. Students get a rigorous safety-first education and the best sailing instruction from certified instructors.
